Phantasy Star Online was really a pioneer for online game play. It was only available for the Sega Dreamcast and the personal computer running the Windows operating system, making it a bit of a find. It was developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega of America early in 2001. It is a role playing game and boasts itself as the first worldwide console RPG. It offers a fun and funky science fiction or futuristic theme known as persistent universe.
Phantasy Star Online, or PSO as it became called in the online communities, was a third person perspective game that was really easy to follow. It featured elements of the classic Japanese style of role playing game. However, its greatest draws came from its online abilities. Each server could host thousands of online players. The games featured real time instead of turn based combat, and many of the weapons gamers could collect were recognizable form other Phantasy Star games, effectively joining the games together.
Another fun feature was the ability to customize the character you play. You could select gender, race, profession, body statistics, hair, clothing and others. Plus, if playing in a MMOPG doesn’t thrill you, you could always play off line.
