Yet another in the seemingly endless list of games starring the speedy little blue hedgehog, Sonic Blast is a Sega Game Gear exclusive, although there was Sonic 3D: Flickiesí Island that was released at the same time for the Sega Genesis or Mega Drive, as well as the Saturn. Like pretty much all the Sonic games, this was a third person perspective, side scrolling platform game that was suitable for gamers of all ages, containing no advanced themes or overt violence.
What it DID contain was very colorful backgrounds and well rendered character sprites. Sega released this game in hopes that it would revitalize sales of the Game Gear with a popular title. It worked to some extent. Of course, this game has all of the features and characters you come to look for in a game that bears the Sonic the Hedgehog name. Dr. Robotnik almost has to be up to something and it most certainly will involve those coveted chaos emeralds that seem to cause trouble in every single game. This is a clever and lively little play, filled with classic platform gaming action.
