Sonic the Hedgehog is to the Sega Genesis/Megadrive (and really the SEGA name all the way around) as Mario is to Nintendo. This little blue blur quickly became the flagship character of the Sega family, with platform games like this leading the way toward Sega’s popularity in the nineties.
It was the early nineties when Sonic was introduced for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive. He quickly became everyone’s favorite little speed demon with the advent of this side scrolling, third person perspective, platform game. Of course, platform games were a dime a dozen, as were fun animated characters. But the thing that set Sonic apart from its competition was the level of action. Sonic was exceptionally fast paced by nature: everything Sonic did or tried to do was at break-neck speed.
He can do loops and make incredible jumps because of this speed induced momentum. He is going to need all of these skills in order to stop the evil Dr. Robotnik. He has captured many of Sonic’s best buddies and trapped them inside of robots, leaving them helpless and at the doctor’s mercy…if there is any to be had. Sonic will have to use his spin attack to destroy the robot shells, free his friends and stop the evil doctor from utilizing the infamous chaos emeralds.
