Game Review (written by Theblackyak) Added on: 16 Feb 2012
Sega certainly got the scoop on other home video gaming consoles when they released Shinobi in the late eighties. It began as a coin operated arcade title, but made its way quickly to multiple formats. Designers were likely unaware of the fact that this game would launch an entire family of Shinobi fighting games.
Shinobi is a ninja themed game and you will control the titular character, Shinobi. Your goal is to rescue the hostages that have been taken captive by your enemy. You are armed with a host of stereotypical ninja weaponry, such as shurikens, but you will primarily use hand to hand to combat skills in the form of kicks and punches for both offensive and defensive maneuvers. You also have screen clearing ninja magic that can be used from time to time.
Your enemies are larger than life humans, most of whom throw swords. Some have guns. All are dangerous. At the end of each level there will be a big boss, which could be anything from a really, really big human to a helicopter shooting at you. Defeat all the baddies. Save all the hostages. Be a hero.
